SCS Newsletter 08-18-24
Hello everyone! Even more so than last week, there is a LOT of information from various people in this message. Please try to read through everything. I will make this message a POST on our member page (new password – SCSyear9) for you to refer back. It was obvious at our first rehearsal last week that some of us had not gotten messages over the last month and were not prepared. Look out for your friends in the choir and make sure everyone is getting these emails!
FROM THE BOARD
DUES – Thank you to everyone who has paid their dues! We are still looking for payment from 17 members. Please try to pay online now, bring your payment (cash/check/credit) to the Social on Thursday, or mail a check to Don Stuart. (2751 Columbia Trail Loveland 45140)
*** If you are not returning to the choir until January, we would still like to collect your dues now.
Pay through our website – https://sycamorecommunitysingers.com/product-category/dues/
Pay with Venmo – Click THIS LINK
SOCIAL – We do not have rehearsal this week, but instead will have our social on Thursday evening! Read THIS EVITE to remind yourself what to bring! YOUR STUFF – Please remember to take ALL of your belongings when you leave rehearsals. We already had someone leave a water bottle last week.
ROSTER – Please check the membership roster for this year. If any information is incorrect or missing, respond to this message with the correct info! If you don’t want some info displayed to the rest of our membership, you can let me know that also, and we will only include it in the “Board” version of the file.
HEADSHOTS – We would LOVE to update your headshot for our online photo board. Some of these photos are close to a decade old. We know you haven’t changed a bit, but we’d love a fresh shot! Please send a photo that you would like us to use to syccomsingers@gmail.com. It should clearly show your face and upper torso at least. I can trim any pictures to exclude other people. Try to send new pictures by September 1.
ABSENCES – If you need to let us know that you won’t be at a rehearsal, fill out THE FORM!
REHEARSAL NOTES – Great idea from our directors to have someone in each section TAKE NOTES for everyone! You should receive an email from your section’s note taker when you miss a rehearsal. It is your responsibility to put the notes into your music BEFORE the next rehearsal! I will be working to get these notes on our website member page also!
ATTIRE – We will be performing in our more formal attire for the November concerts! Women – long black dress and sparkly jacket; Men – tuxedos! New members since January 2024 will need to get the fancy stuff! More information coming very soon!
FROM POLLY Happy Sunday, SCSingers! I love the weekends; they are the perfect time to relax, reflect, and regroup before the coming week.
Since our first rehearsal, I have indeed relaxed; Ellery & I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary with dinner at Arthur’s in Hyde Park on Saturday. (It’s where we first met and our story began.) Today I’m trying to stay relaxed as I prepare for tomorrow’s surgery at 7:30AM (Mon, Aug 19). I can feel everyone’s positive thoughts and prayers. Thank you!
I’ve also reflected on Thursday night’s rehearsal and all the things I didn’t say – or do – but wish I had. For the past few months, Michelle and I have been planning this season and getting very excited about it. I realize, though, that with all my excitement, I probably dove into things faster than I should’ve Thursday evening. Guess the pressure of knowing I wouldn’t see you all for a few weeks got the best of me. I just wanted to cover as many things as I could before I disappeared for this recovery time!
I apologize for not giving the Board time to talk to you all, for Pam Barnett & Mary Wynn Haupt a chance to discuss how to order formal clothing for our newer members, for Sally Alexander an opportunity to remind folks about this Thursday night’s social (Aug 22 @ Swaim Park)… and any other items of business that should have been discussed. I do hope the Board will make all that information known at the Social, as well as at the Women’s Sectional (Aug 29) and the Men’s Sectional (Sept 5 at Church of the Savior).
So today, I must regroup and look ahead. I’m doing the last of my pre-op prep this evening and turning all my attention toward a positive outcome tomorrow. I am going to be the best little patient ever, following doctor’s orders and doing ALL my physical therapy exercises, so I can get back to (mostly) business-as-usual as soon as possible. I will miss you all but know you are in excellent hands with Michelle! She has a great plan ready to go for the sectional rehearsals.
My goal is to be back on Thurs, Sept 12 when we’re all together again. Till then, please listen to your tracks
and get as familiar as possible with the music, so you can share in our enthusiasm for this coming season!

3. Ocho Kandelikas (will decide on Alto split during sectionals)
4. O Come Emmanuel
5. I’ll Be Home for Christmas (pitches only on tracks- no lyrics)
6. Home
Tracks are available for each song except “Home” & “Oh Come Emmanuel”- please find the file labeled “Add’l Performance Recordings” & familiarize yourself with both of these songs before rehearsal while we are still awaiting tracks.
